The Philadelphia Regional Chapter of the Medical Library Association (MLA-Phil) gives this award to an individual (or group of individuals) in recognition of outstanding contribution in the application of technology to the delivery of technical services in one or more of these areas: collection development, collection management, cataloging and acquisition, information services, information technology and information systems. The The candidate or candidates must demonstrate efforts in one or more of the following areas:
- Introduction of innovative techniques, methods or systems.
- Contributions to networking and the service oriented philosophy of resource sharing.
- Longstanding contributions to the field of library and information science.
- Commitment to performance excellence.
- Enhancement of institutional program reputation.
The recipient receives a certificate at the MLA-Phil Annual Business Meeting and Dinner, which is normally held every April, plus complimentary registration for the dinner.
Guidelines
- The award is presented annually if a qualified candidate or group exists.
- Candidates (at least one in the case of a group) must be chapter members.
- Nominations must be in the form of an application and include resumes.
- The award is announced at the Chapter’s Annual Meeting.
- The recipient receives a certificate at the MLA-Phil Annual Business Meeting and Dinner, which is normally held every April.
- The Chapter will pay the cost of dinner for the awardee or awardee group’s representative at the Annual Meeting.
Procedure:
Write a letter of application or nomination and submit along with nominees resume and completed application form (doc) to the Nominating Committee Chair by March 15:

Robert Preston Lee
Our chapter’s award for excellence in technology is named after Robert Preston Lee. Bob Lee was Associate Librarian for Technical Services and Systems at Thomas Jefferson University Scott Memorial Library. He was known for his innovative spirit, technical expertise, and generous collegiality. An active member of the Chapter, he served as treasurer from 1984-1986. He was also chair of the Archives Committee, and on the Membership Committees on both the local and national level.

The blue plaque reads, “Handmade Turkish Azeri Carpet / In Memory of / Robert Preston Lee (1950-1988) / Beloved Member of Scott Library Staff / Donated by his friends and colleagues”
