Archives Committee
Charge: Ensures that officers and committee chairmen send designated records to the archives; files records according to the adopted filing system; maintains the files and filing system; provides access to the records in the archives; communicates to the membership information about the archives; identifies areas of need for the archives; serves as advisory body to the Board on matters involving the archives; submits annual objectives and midwinter and annual reports.
Bylaws Committee
Charge: Serves as an advisory body to the Board on matters involving the bylaws; identifies areas of the bylaws in need of change or revision; receives proposals for bylaws changes and/or revisions from the Board; prepares drafts of bylaws changes and/or revisions for consideration by the Board; communicates (by mail) the final, Board approved, proposed bylaws change or revision to the members hip two weeks prior to the Annual Chapter Business Meeting; presents the final Board Approved, proposed bylaws change or revision at the Annual Chapter Business Meeting for a vote; submits final membership approved revisions to the MLA, Inc. Bylaws Committee; revises Chapter bylaws in midwinter and annual reports.
Communications Committee
Charge: Serves as the public relations body and information channel for the Chapter; oversees the publication of the chief information organ of the Chapter, The Chronicle; oversees preparation of all other Chapter publications and/or printed material; communicates to the membership information about publication and publicity activities; serves as an advisory body to the board on matters involving public relations and publication; submits annual objectives and midwinter and annual reports; oversees chapter listserv MLA-PHIL.
Education and Credentialing Committee
Charge: Provides continuing education programs and/or workshops within the Philadelphia Regional Chapter; communicates with Chapter membership concerning preferred types of courses and/or workshops; identifies relevant programs sponsored by MLA or their special interest groups in response to the members’ needs; proposes courses and/or workshops to the Board; provides Credentialing information for Chapter members; obtains MLA Credentialing credit for regional courses; submits annual objectives, midwinter and annual reports.
Governmental Relations Committee
Charge: Monitors relevant legislative activity at local, state, and national levels; reports legislative activities to the Board; recommends action in response to relevant issues (may include correspondence with legislators); encourages membership to take action w here relevant; publishes articles of interest in The Chronicle; submits annual objectives and midwinter and annual reports.
Membership Committee
Charge: Develops, has printed, and distributes the Chapter’s brochures and application forms to all active members each year; communicates to the membership information about new members; maintains up-to-date membership and mailing lists for the Chapter; produces Chapter Directory, recruits new members for the Chapter; identifies areas of need concerning Chapter membership; serves as an adviso ry body to the Board on matters involving Chapter membership; submits annual objectives and midwinter and annual reports.
Nominating Committee
Charge: Reviews the qualifications of possible candidates, selects and nominates candidates for Chapter offices of President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Chapter Representative and alternate: communicates to the membership information about candidates nominated for Chapter offices; serves as an advisory body to the Board on matters involving Chapter nominations; acts as the awards committee for the Chapter; submits annual objectives and midwinter and annual reports.
Program Committee
Charge: Plans at least three general meetings a year, including speakers, selecting facilities, arranging for refreshments, and preparing and mailing meeting notices; arranges a joint meeting with another library association at least every two years; communicates program plans to the membership for particular types of programs; serves as an advisory body to the Board on program needs, effectiveness and popularity; submits annual objectives and midwinter and annual reports.
Web Committee
Charge: Oversees the chapter website, mlaphil.org.
