Twice a year, the Philadelphia Regional Chapter/MLA will offer one grant of up to $300.00 to a librarian/information scientist in order to pursue continuing education in the area of health science librarianship. Continuing education opportunities include registration fees for courses, programs, workshops, and conferences sponsored by graduate schools of library/information science, colleges and universities, and professional organizations.

Who may apply:

Members of the Philadelphia Regional Chapter who have a graduate degree in library/information science or information systems may apply. The grant will be awarded to a librarian who effectively demonstrates his/her need for continuing education in order to pursue institutional objectives and/or achieve professional growth.

Application:

Applicants must submit application form, resume, published description of the education opportunity, statement explaining the reason(s) for applying for the grant and how this course will enhance the applicant’s pursuit of institutional objectives and/or professional development, and a letter of recommendation. Applications must be received by the Chapter’s Nominating Committee Chair by March 23 or September 1. The Awards Committee will determine the grant winners and notify all applicants of the decision one month after application due date. The award must be used within one year of announcement.

Restrictions:

The grant must be used for continuing education courses, programs, workshops, and conferences sponsored by the graduate schools of library/information science, colleges and universities, and professional organizations. Upon completion of the continuing education opportunity, the awardee will submit proof that the terms of the grant have been met (e.g., CE certificate, transcript).
