Public Access Language Makes It Into House Bill

From MLA National:

On July 11, 2007, the House Appropriations Committee marked-up the FY 2008 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill. MLA National has been pursuing language in the Committee Report that accompanies this bill that would recommend requiring all investigators funded by the NIH to submit or have submitted for them to NLM’s PubMed Central an electronic version of their final, peer-reviewed manuscripts within 12 months of acceptance for publication. In addition to the recommendations, the Committee also included language in the bill itself that, upon passage, would mandate this as official policy. Furthermore, the Senate’s Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill currently includes a similar provision, thus making it very likely that this language will be in the final FY08 Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill after the House and Senate go to conference.
