Rose Malinowski Weingartner, MPH, a research associate at Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) gave a lively talk on “The Community Health Database: Connecting Local Institutions to Population Data.” Here are the slides (PDF). Judging by the great questions afterward, the group was clearly engaged. I’m sure they’ll be thinking of ways their organizations can partner and digging into the many free reports linked from the PHMC Data Findings page.

March 29, 2011- Members of the Joint MLA/Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) Legislative Task Force met with congressional staff providing support to members of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies. The task force addressed the importance of level funding for the National Library of Medicine (NLM) for the remainder of fiscal year 2011 and recommended a 12.9% increase for NLM in fiscal year 2012. The task force addressed programs and services that highlight why NLM is an investment in good health including:
Statement from Coordinator of Information Issues and Policy Medical Library Association
MLA has signed onto the Coalition for Health Funding statement, which recommends funding of $65 billion for discretionary public health programs in fiscal year 2012, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and NLM. The statement addresses the principle that a healthy nation is a prosperous nation and a great return on investment.
