Laura McNamara
Laura is the Electronic Resources Librarian at Thomas Jefferson University, and has held this position since 2011. She is primarily responsible for the electronic and print serial collections, and oversees interlibrary loan operations. Prior to this, Laura was the Systems/Reference Librarian and the Library Liaison to the School of Nursing & Allied Health Professions at Holy Family University. Laura has held positions at University of Pennsylvania’s Population Studies Center, Demography Library. She received a MSLS from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Laura is a current member of MLA, ACRL, and LITA. She has previously been involved with the Tri-State College Library Cooperative (TCLC), Southeastern Consortium for Higher Education (SEPCHE), and the Association for Population/Family Planning Libraries and Information Centers – International (APLIC-I). Quote from Laura: “I believe that professional associations are an invaluable resource for professional development. Involvement with local chapters provides unique opportunities for collaboration, continued education, and a strong network of colleagues in our region. I look forward to my involvement with the Philadelphia Regional Chapter of MLA.”
Secretary
Steven Bogel
Steve is the Information Services Librarian at Drexel University Health Sciences Libraries, Hahnemann Library. He provides research assistance and library instruction for programs in the School of Medicine, the College of Nursing and Health Professions, and the School of Public Health. In collaboration with library colleagues and faculty he helps develop training programs in health informatics and evidence-based practice. Steve provides liaison services to various clinical departments in the School of Medicine, supports the information needs of distance learners, and acts as a Personal Librarian to incoming freshman students. Steve began his career in the health sciences as a clinical physician assistant and worked for many years as the operations director of an international medical assistance company. He received a Masters in Library and Information Science from Drexel University in 2005 and worked as the clinical librarian at Pennsylvania Hospital before starting his position at Drexel.
Treasurer
Gary M. Childs, MS
Gary is the Education/Reference Librarian. Mr. Childs supports the programs of Drexel’s College of Medicine, College of Nursing and Health Professions, and School of Public Health. He educates and instructs the Drexel community focusing on the utilization of library-related databases, tools, and resources. He specializes in health sciences-based library instruction in multiple fields including; Medicine, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Public Health, etc. Additionally, Gary demonstrates the use of bibliographic citation tools such as EndNote and RefWorks. Mr. Childs also serves as a member of the Quality Committee in the Online Learning Council and facilitates graduate student workshops at the Drexel Libraries. He is committed to volunteerism and frequently assists in a myriad of ways at the Animal Care & Control Team Shelter located in Philadelphia.
Gary received a BA in Psychology (University of Massachusetts—Dartmouth) and a MS in Library and Information Science (Drexel University).
