Senior Medical Librarian, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown PA

This individual will work collaboratively under the leadership of the Library Director in developing and coordinating the production of written documentation, online courses and publications addressing information literacy, infomastery, and evidence based practice. Will demonstrate a solid understanding of educational needs analysis, the application of learning theory, and evaluation methods for measuring learning outcomes. Performs expert searching and provides consultative services. Will be responsible for the web content, data management systems, and media objects supporting consumer health information resources. Demonstrates a collaborative perspective regarding other members of the care team including but not limited to clinical inpatient staff, outpatient clinics, and community based physician practices.

REQUIRED:

Minimum of three years experience in research, design, writing publications for information literacy/infomastery and expert literature searching. Experience in design and development of technology based instructional materials. Master’s Degree in Library Science, Education, Instructional Design or relevant field required. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, Medline, CINAHL and other healthcare databases.

PREFERRED:

Five years experience in all areas in a healthcare setting. Experience in expert searching for meta-analysis, systematic reviews, clinical practice guidelines and other research documents. Academy of Health Information Professionals certification preferred. Strong technical skills in software for website creation, course creation, databases, repository, image creation, learning management systems. Project management skills.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Demonstrate the ability to work independently, be flexible, and prioritize effectively. Excellent organizational skills to organize and manage a variety of tasks and projects and to work under pressure of time lines and multiple demands. Ability to supervise/direct library staff in absence of director. Requires working at any of the library locations, i.e., 17, CC and LHVM.

The Philadelphia Regional Chapter MLA will be offering an early round of its Grant Program for Professional Development to provide financial support for attendees.

House Appropriations Subcommittee to Move Forward With a Bill to Defund AHRQ

 On Wednesday a bill was voted on that will cut $1.3 Billion from the Department of Health and Human Services and eliminate funding for the  Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
