Medical Librarian (part-time), Paoli Hospital, Paoli PA

Essential Accountabilities:
·Catalogs and classifies all monographs, serials, and audio-visual materials using NLM classification.
·Responsible for collection development in assigned subject areas
·Assists staff and students in preparing bibliographies, abstracts, or reviews and acts as a consultant in the location of study or reference materials
·Consults with staff and other library users on information retrieval and management and online searching
·Responsible for audio-visual acquisitions and development of audio-visual programs
·Prepares journals for binding
·Perform Interlibrary Loan procedures and maintain docline
·Logs in journals & Processes journal claims
·Maintains reference and reserve lists
·Performs work in accordance with specified standards
·Performs other job related duties as assigned by site supervisor & Director, library services
·Does inventory of holdings twice a year
·Work in other locations (BMH & Paoli ) as needed
·Other duties as assigned by Director

·BS in library science required
·MS in Library Science or Information Science preferred

·2-3 years Library experience preferred
·Experience in Medical Library desired but not required

Head of Library Services, Merck, West Point PA

Recruit, develop, and energize a global Library Services organization and foster a transformational culture of knowledge sharing and connectivity. Design and deliver the Library Services Strategy in alignment with KD/KM strategy to improve information access and decision-making throughout Merck.

•As a member of the KD/KM management team, develop and manage the Library Services organization, and associated vendor relationships and budget, in alignment with KD/KM and Merck strategies.

•Coordinate with Client Services and MRL leadership to actively develop requirements for Library Services, and translate business needs into collection development and functional project plans.

•Partner with Client Services, KM Services, MRL-IT, and Information Management groups across Merck to deliver a global, Digital Library.

•Partner with Client Services Head to provide outreach to Merck stakeholders and deliver online training and awareness for Library resources.

•Build and maintain leadership in the field of electronic content access, delivery, and use, including Digital Libraries, Search Engines, and information delivery to desktop applications, virtual workspaces, and mobile devices.

•Constantly benchmark Merck Library Services against external standards and best practices, monitor content usage and ROI, and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including Copyright.

•Serve as the Merck SME on scholarly communication and publishing standards, e-content licensing and procurement, and the design and development of techniques for information aggregation, organization, and linking.

•Collaborate externally with standards bodies and content vendors to shape the development of emerging library products and services, including delivery platforms, digital rights management solutions, and APIs.

The MLA-Phil Awards Committee is pleased to announce grants to support attendance at Connections: MLA Quad Chapter Meeting (Baltimore, Oct. 13-16). Chapter members are encouraged to apply for funds to cover meeting registration (early-bird member rate is $250) and/or Continuing Education registration (member rate for a half-day class is $65).
