Daniel Pink, best-selling author on the changing world of work, presented the John P. McGovern Lecture at the Medical Library Association Annual Conference in Washington, DC, on Sunday, May 23, 2010. His talk was entitled: “A Whole New Mind.”  The Medical Library Association selected A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers will Rule the Future as the common book for the conference. In his book, Pink charts the rise of right-brain thinking in modern economies and describes the six abilities individuals and organizations must master in an outsourced and automated age.

Learn to develop Web-based Instruction — Submit Your Application Today!

The Medical Library Association is hosting its 2nd institute to teach the skills need to develop web-based instruction. MLA is currently accepting applications to this Institute. The deadline date for submissions is Friday, March 21st.

The MLA CE Institute 2008: Developing Web-Based Instruction

Who: Based on a competitive process, twenty MLA-approved continuing education (CE) instructors and NN/LM coordinators will be selected for this learning opportunity.

What: At the MLA CE Institute, instructors will participate in intensive training and spend time in course development to transfer their existing face-to-face classes into Web-based mentored courses.

Where: Downtown Chicago

Evidence-based nursing CE in New Jersey

Our MLA neighbors in New Jersey are sponsoring a CE course on “Finding the Evidence: Evidence-based Practice in Nursing”

While finding evidence in the medical literature has become fairly standardized, finding the evidence in the nursing literature can be less straightforward. This class will include a basic overview and history of EBP in nursing, hierarchies of quantitative and qualitative evidence, formulating the question and finding the right resources, as well as covering aspects unique to nursing, such as qualitative meta-synthesis and EBP in nursing administration.
