EMPLOYER:
Rittenhouse Book Distributors, Inc., a health science book distribution company, is seeking an experienced manager for the Library Services Department.
Thomas Jefferson University Director of Digital Initiatives
The Department of Academic and Instructional Support and Resources (AISR) of Thomas Jefferson University seeks an energetic and experienced individual to fill its position of Director of Digital Initiatives. This position is primarily responsible for leading AISR in acquiring and managing new technology, including, but not limited to the Integrated Library System (ILS), personal bibliographic management tools (e.g. Refworks), and external databases. This person will lead the Library’s efforts in exploring, acquiring, and maintaining information resources and their supporting technologies (e.g. blogs, wikis, PHP databases, social networking tools, etc.). This includes staff training and support.
Thanks to Gregg Headrick, who came down from New York last Thursday to lead about 15 of us on a tour of tools and trends in the NN/LM workshop “Geeks Bearing Gifts 2.0: Unwrapping New Technology Trends.” Here’s the outline. Once again I forgot to bring a camera so you’ll just have to imagine the Hahnemann computer lab, a great place for hands-on instruction. As the title of the course implies, he was evenhanded about presenting them with no illusions that any one tool was a game changer.
Participants swapped stories about what they are using (Rebecca uses Bloglines for journal clubs; Lisa uses Wordpress.com to extend the library website) and what they are seeing (I mentioned Jefferson’s OT Center in Second Life; Jenny mentioned recent discussion about doctors and medical students twittering).
