Lenore Hardy’s Retirement

Congratulations to Lenore Hardy who will be retiring as Director of Health Science Libraries, Drexel University, later this month!

Lenore has been an engaged member of the Philadelphia Regional Chapter, serving on the board in various capacities including as Chair, 2004-2005. She will be stepping down from her current role as By-Laws Chair, where last year she modernized our organization to allow online voting.

Contact me if you are interested in joining the board as By-Laws Chair, fulfilling her term which ends next July, 2012.

Please join me in thanking Lenore for her service to the profession, for her collegiality, and in wishing the best in her future endeavors.

Webcast on E-Science and Team Science

MLA National held a webcast last Friday on “Connecting E-science and Team Science: The Changing Nature of Research“. Thanks to Martha Kirby and her staff, the Philadelphia Regional Chapter sponsored a viewing hosted by Adrienne Jensen at Drexel College of Medicine Queen Lane Campus. We had a smaller turnout than usual. Nikki Detmar points out on her eagledawg blog, that the Friday afternoon timing may have been a factor. If you weren’t able to make it, please let us know so we can plan accordingly for the spring webcast.

Here are some of the resources mentioned that I’ve found helpful: the Sigma Xi white paper, Team Science: Heaving Walls & Melding Silos (pdf) provides a good overview of this emerging trend in how science approaches society’s intractable problems such as climate change or healthcare delivery, teamscience.net provides an interactive learning module, and the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP) maintains a list of funding mechanisms.

Vote by December 6th

Congratulations to MLA-Phil Chapter members Priscilla Stephenson and Mindy Robinson-Paquette who are candidates for the 2012/13 MLA Nominating Committee.

Remember to vote in the national election by 12/6!
