Enjoy some wonderful wines, cheeses, and hors d’oeuvres while mingling with your colleagues & friends!

Our guest speaker is Jane Meyers. Jane is a Founder and the CEO of the Luboto Library Project <http://www.lubuto.org/> .

The Lubuto Library Project continues its ground-breaking work to improve lives and create productive futures for orphans and other vulnerable children and youth in sub-Saharan Africa. Over the past year, building life skills through the LubutoMentoring program, creating a path to literacy through computer-based reading programs, preserving culture by digitizing and posting out-of-print Zambian stories on the Internet, and extending access through the opening of a second library, the Lubuto Library Project moved forward with its dynamic, innovative, and highly effective approach to serving children and teens in need.

MLA 2011 in Minneapolis — One Perspective

MLA “REthink” conference, Minneapolis, May 12 – 18, 2011

I arrived in a rainy Minneapolis on Saturday in time for an afternoon CE class (more on that below); gorgeous weather (70 degrees and sunny) came Sunday morning and stayed though Wednesday. The weather complemented the excellent programming arranged by this year’s National Program Committee, which was led by Bart Ragon and Gabriel Rios; it also facilitated attendees’ venturing outdoors to meet each other and/or explore the city. Under the gleaming skyscrapers of downtown Minneapolis, we learned from and with colleagues from across the globe, made new acquaintances and friends, and just plain caught up with others long unseen.
