The College of Physicians has graciously accepted our request to provide MLA-Philadelphia members with a private screening of the new film by renowned (and originally from Philadelphia) film-makers Stephen and Timothy Quay. Mark your calendars for Tuesday January 24th, 2012, from 3:00 to 5:00pm!

The Quay brothers were commissioned to create a work highlighting some of the College’s treasures, including several rare books, and the result is a captivating 30-minute portrayal of the collection, in the signature wistful, poetic style of the Quays. Screening of the film will be followed by a question-and-answer session in which Robert Hicks, PhD, Director of the Museum and Historical Library, will respond to our inquiries about the project. Finally, guests will have the option of a private tour of the film-related exhibit.

Registration and wine reception will begin at 3:00pm. Screening begins at 3:30pm. The museum closes at 5pm. This event will be free for students, retirees, and those between jobs; $10 for current MLA-Phil or SLA-Phil members; $20 for non-members. If space is still available, walk-ins will be welcome, but pre-registration is requested.

Please reserve your seat by pre-registering online at http://www.acteva.com/booking.cfm?bevaid=226830 . (Either check or credit card will be accepted.) Online registration closes at 5pm on Monday Jan 23rd.

All the best wishes for the New Year, and don’t forget to renew or begin your MLA-Phil membership for 2012 at http://www.mlaphil.org/wp/join/ !

Directions to the College/Museum by car or public transit are online at http://collegeofphysicians.org/site/directions.html .

A New York Times article about the film is online at http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/17/movies/17quay.html .
