Second Life Learning Commons for Nurses Meeting

Greetings,

We of the Virtual Learning Commons for Nurses (Eastern University) are planning an in-world meeting to discuss the use of immersive technologies (Second Life) for nursing education and library services. The meeting will be held sometime in January. However, we do not have a specific date set.

There are several universities in the USA and UK already implementing nursing programs in SL.  We hope some of you will join us in Second Life and contribute your insights to our discussion of the technologies emerging for nursing distance education and reference.

When we have a specific date, I will post here.

Until then come visit us in Second Life (Teching 10 Island) or join us on the wiki (http://vlcn.wetpaint.com/).

Take care,

Mark

And enter your project in the NMLM Creative Promotions Award contest by sending samples of materials or photos of events to Tomi Gunn (mlams@mlahq.org) by Monday, December 1. The top 3 will be awarded MLA gift certificates for $200, $150, and $100.

Lourdes to provide consumer health information with NN/LM tech improvement award

Congratulations to Susan Cleveland, MLS, Library Director at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, NJ, who won an NN/LM Middle Atlantic Region technology improvement award for kiosks that will be in the ER, the third floor waiting room and the library. They’ll provide consumer health information in English and Spanish at the start, with expansion to other languages as requests increase. Sue is assembling the kiosks herself, sourcing components and cabinets and using patient education materials from several vendors as well as the NIH/NLM site.

The NN/LM offers tech awards up to $7,500 for the purchase, installation, and/or upgrading of information technologies that enhance access to health information. A list of recent awardees is at the MARquee.  All MAR members are eligible to apply for these awards. The call for the next round of funding will be late Summer or early Fall.

MLA 2008 Poster Session II

Tidbit:  On his blog, David Rothman does a quick camera pan of our chapter’s poster.  The shot appears about thirty-two seconds into the video; pity that he didn’t scan the whole poster, just the top of it.
