Volunteer Positions Available

The Philadelphia Regional Chapter of MLA board is seeking three new members, Education and Credentialing Chair, Communication Chair and AHIP Liaison.  Each of these positions creates community in our chapter.

Are you interested in a particular area of Medical Librarianship?  Do you wish the chapter would finally get around to presenting a program you’re interested in? Consider becoming Education and Credentialing Chair.  The chair creates opportunities for learning and networking with peers. And you get to choose the topics!

Do you like being able to share what you know? Of course you do!  You’re a librarian! Do you want to learn more about developing websites?  Consider becoming Communication Chair.  The position is only limited by imagination and interest in technology.

Do you have AHIP certification? Do you enjoy being a mentor to others?  Do you like sharing your skills to help people grow in the profession?  Consider the position of AHIP Liaison and create an environment for profession growth unlike any other. Plus you get AHIP points!  It’s the circle of life AHIP!

You don’t need to have been in the profession forever to apply.  All you need it a desire to add some excitement to your life while giving back.

Second Life Learning Commons for Nurses Meeting

We of the Virtual Learning Commons for Nurses (Eastern University) are planning an in-world meeting to discuss the use of immersive technologies (Second Life) for nursing education and library services. The meeting will be held sometime in January. However, we do not have a specific date set.

There are several universities in the USA and UK already implementing nursing programs in SL.  We hope some of you will join us in Second Life and contribute your insights to our discussion of the technologies emerging for nursing distance education and reference.

When we have a specific date, I will post here.

Until then come visit us in Second Life (Teching 10 Island) or join us on the wiki (

Take care,
