The 2008 book is Dave Eggers’ What is the What. The novel tells the story of Valentino Achek Deng who witnessed the atrocities of civil warfare in Sudan and became one of the so-called Lost Boys. His journey as one of more than 20,000 uprooted and orphaned children in Sudan and to his new home in the United States has been called by the New York Times “an extraordinary work of witness, and of art.”

Dash for Democracy Update

Team t-shirts for Dash for Democracy are available for purchase! The shirt is Hanes quality and will feature the Books Through Bars logo on the front and the team name, Bookin It, on the back.
The shirt design and silk-screening were very graciously donated to our cause to keep costs down and allow us to do a little fundraising amongst ourselves. Shirt price is $15 which includes an $8 donation to Books Through Bars.
Please reply to Sarah Daub via email (sed42@drexel.edu) by 4pm on Wednesday, October 24, if you would like to order a shirt. Specify S, M, L, XL, or XXL.
Cash or check will be accepted. Make checks payable to Anita Chiodo. Payment is due upon delivery of the t-shirt (during the week of October 29th.)

The team with the most registered participants running/walking for the same cause will receive $2,000 to donate to its chosen cause. There is no personal fundraising required. Read more>>>

October is National Medical Librarians Month!

In honor of National Medical Librarians Month, please share any pictures or promotions your libraries are doing on the MLA-Phil website!

I’ll start this off with where I work. On the Drexel University Health Sciences Libraries’ website, there will be a blog entry (update: here it is!) with a link to profiles of the librarians.

To see what other libraries are doing in the region, take a look at the Middle Atlantic Region on NLM’s website. This page features a description of Delaware Academy of Medicine’s Wellness Wednesdays.
