GOALS AND OBJECTIVES 2004/2005

PHILADELPHIA REGIONAL CHAPTER OF MLA

I. MLA Goal: Recruitment, Membership, and Leadership in the Profession.

Chapter Goals:

Continue recognition of outstanding members through chapter awards, grants, and profiles in the chapter newsletter.

Encourage use of chapter members as spokespersons for the profession.

Seek opportunities to participate in career days at schools and alma maters.

II. MLA Goal: Life Long Learning.

Chapter Goals:

Continue offering programs and continuing education opportunities that will further professional development, including offerings that may appeal to other fields of librarianship and health professionals.

Encourage participation of members in AHIP.

Encourage young professionals to develop professionally through mentoring events and activities.

III. MLA Goal: Advocacy.

Chapter Goals:

Continue to influence information policy and legislation by keeping members informed on relevant issues and encouraging proactive response.

Help members advocate their value to their own institutions.

Continue chapter involvement with the development of the Informationist concept.

IV. MLA Goal: Creating and Communicating Our Knowledge.

Chapter Goals:

Continue web development and the provision of useful chapter information online.

Seek opportunities for collaborative research, writing, and publishing among chapter members.

Encourage members to publish in both the professional library science literature and medical literature.

Encourage chapter participation in the MLA Benchmarking Network implementation.

V. MLA Goal: Building a Network of Partners.

Chapter Goals:

Collaborate with other chapters, and with other library associations, in sponsoring joint meetings.

Collaborate with other library organizations and health care professionals in providing networking opportunities.

Provide support to those institutions providing services to the public, both within the chapter and outside of it.
