Join Drexel University Libraries in supporting a good cause and getting a little exercise!
On November 3, 2007, Drexel University Libraries will be teaming up with other local library workers and friends to participate in the Dash for Democracy 5K run/walk. Each team competing in the Dash chooses a cause to represent in the race. The team with the most registered participants running/walking for the same cause will receive $2,000 to donate to its chosen cause. There is no personal fundraising required.
Drexel University Libraries team, named “Bookin’ It,” is representing Books Through Bars (BTB), a non-profit organization that provides quality reading material to prisoners and prison libraries across the country. The mission of BTB is to break cycles of crime and incarceration due to social and economic inequality in our society. Though the book requests received by BTB cover a diverse range of subjects, a large number of the requests it receives are for preparation materials for the GED.
