Candidate Bios:

Andrea Kenyon is the candidate for Chair-Elect:

Andrea Kenyon is the Director of Public Health and Community Outreach at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. She has over twenty eight years of experience working to improve access to and understanding of health and medical issues through information and education. Ms. Kenyon has a wide range of experience in medical librarianship having worked in hospital, academic, historical and consumer libraries. She is the founder and Director of PhillyHealthInfo.org, a regionally-focused consumer health information website and community outreach project serving Philadelphia and its surrounding counties.

Ms. Kenyon has a BA in English from Ursinus College and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Michigan. She has a long commitment to the Medical Library Association, serving as Chair of Philadelphia Regional Chapter (1991-92), Chair of Consumer and Patient Health Information Section, MLA (CAPHIS) (1993-94) and Local Arrangements Chair, MLA National Program Committee (1998). She served on the Board of HSLC and was elected Board President (1994-96).

She is a recipient of the Philadelphia Regional Chapter, MLA Chapter Achievement Award, 1995, Randy Brenner Consumer Health Award, 2005 and the Inaugural recipient of The Consumer Health Information Service Award, MLA in 2007. Ms. Kenyon currently manages the CAPHIS listserv and serves as Vice President of the Board of the Lansdowne Public Library. She is co-author of The Public Librarian’s Guide to Providing Consumer Health Information published by the Public Library Association, which was recently translated and published in Japan.

Ms. Kenyon is honored to be asked to serve as Chair Elect of the Philadelphia Regional Chapter. She is serving on the Three by the Sea Conference Program Committee and will be coordinating the Poster Sessions. As the Chapter’s Program Chair, she would work with the Three by the Sea Program Committee to ensure that conference programming reflects the needs and interests of the Chapter membership. In addition, she would plan additional programs for 2010 that challenge members to expand their horizons and challenge their comfort zone. The Chapter has the luxury and the challenge of being small. We need to identify ways to capitalize on being a small chapter. I would also identify and explore new partnerships and collaborations to encourage cross pollination of ideas and increase awareness of the medical librarian’s role in society.

Sheryl Panka-Bryman is the candidate for Secretary:

Sheryl Panka-Bryman is the Associate Director for Technical Services and Systems for Temple University’s Health Sciences Center Libraries. Her professional experience covers the full range of library services. She has worked in Technical Services and Systems for the past six years in academic environments and as a reference librarian in a public library and as a solo librarian in a special library.

Ms. Panka-Bryman received her B.A. in English from Albany State University (N.Y) and was awarded her Masters in Library Science degree from Drexel University.

She is currently serving as the Secretary on the MLA-Phil Board, completing the term of outgoing secretary, Rebecca Raszewski. She is also serving on the continuing education committee for the Tri-Chapter, 3bythesea, event in Atlantic City.
