Sen. Boxer’s office asks MLA for official statement

Take ActionMLA National’s Washington Representatives received a call from Senator Boxer’s office earlier this week asking for an official statement from MLA and AAHSL for the Feb. 6th hearing on the EPA that is described in more detail at ALA’s District Dispatch.

We’ll get a copy of the letter when it’s finalized.

Hi Gar, When I try to click on the [...] to view the entire entry I posted on 1 Feb., it does not work. In order to view the entire entry, I have to be in the ‘News’ area. If I go to the Government Relations link, there are 2 entries but I cannot view the entire entry I posted today. Hope that makes sense! Maura

Hi again Gar, What do you think of the look of the cut and paste and forward of emails thing on the webpage? I don’t like it. It looks very sloppy to me. It is OK to forward information to a listserv, however, to post it permanently on the website, I don’t like it. I would feel the need to retype, etc. What do you think?? Maura

I agree that this may be a mailing list forward, not worthy of a blog post, and that if it is to be blogged it has to massaged some. I did that here by:

    –giving it a title
–stripping out the html formatting from the email (if you right-click “paste without formatting” or paste it into Notepad and then into the blog it’ll strip it out, too)
–Adding an image (okay, this isn’t a good image since the purpose of the post is not for members to take action but, I suppose, to be *aware* that action is being taken. Plus, it’s ALA’s. I’m looking for a graphic from MLA but didn’t see it on http://www.mlanet.org/government/index.html). Anyhow, I mostly wanted to get *any* graphic up there since it was completely devoid of graphics before.
–Rewording it to address the membership
–Finding a link to the ALA blog.

It’s a trade-off. It takes more time and effort, but it adds value: our readers are now quickly linked to the ALA post where additional discussion may be going on–not to mention offering us a forum for our own discussion. (There’s one comment awaiting moderator approval on the ALA site right now.) And down the line, site visitors will see direct evidence of the chapter’s involvement in government relations.

I suspect there’s a balance of quick forwards to the list and more filtered threads on the blog.

Oh, I’m not quite sure what you meant about not being able to view the whole story, but see if it’s been resolved now that the post has a title

Now I see what you mean: the string that means that there’s more to the post is [...], but it isn’t a link to the rest of the post! You can click on the post title to see the entire post.

I’ll see if I can change it.
