Virtua Health (http://www.virtua.org) has an immediate opening for a Medical Librarian.
Role Statement: Oversees and manages daily operations of the Medical Library at Virtua’s Voorhees Campus. Proactively plans, implements, and administers knowledge-based information services for both clinical and non-clinical Virtua-Voorhees customers through Virtua’s multi-site Library collection (print and electronic resources) and through cooperating Library network systems, including the National Library of Medicine.
Job Essentials: Collaborates with the Medical Librarian-Mount Holly campus to plan and set goals and objectives for Virtua’s Medical Libraries. This includes:
1. Providing proactive, professional patron-oriented research services to Virtua Voorhees customers; and developing individual client current awareness and selective dissemination services based on patron information profiles;
2. Evaluating print and electronic resources as part of collection development activities;
3. Appraisal of, and adjusts to technology requirements for Virtua’s Libraries;
4. Demonstration of fiscal responsibility by working within a budget;
5. Marketing Library Services;
6. Assist in establishing Library policies and procedures to implement the Library strategic plan and monitor compliance;
7. Collection, preparation and analyzing Library reports and statistics using the Library’s strategic plan as a guide;
8. Developing and maintaining Library facilities including space design and utilization, furnishings, equipment and security;
9. Attending conferences, workshops, seminars, continuing education classes to maintain knowledge of changing technologies and developments in the healthcare and information industries;
10. Training customers in the use of new technology through in-services and outreach programs;
11. Developing procedures for research and document delivery to support research services and to ensure that resources are both accessible to customers and in line with Virtua’s IS Department Policy regarding electronic delivery of research.
Required:
Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program required. Ability to manage a medical library and work both independently and collaboratively in a complex healthcare environment;
Proven administrative, fiscal, planning and technology skills, particularly knowledge and experience with emerging technologies in the provision of library services;
Ability to efficiently use pertinent computer and information technologies appropriate for an administrative setting – Microsoft Office Suite, Email, Electronic calendar, etc.
Excellent written, oral, analytical, organizational and leadership skills a must.
Desired: Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP). A minimum of 3 years relevant experience. Medical or biological sciences background desired.
