Thanks so much for the welcome! I've been a member of MLA for the last seven years, but haven't been active, since I'm at the Free Library; for the last two years I've been in the Newspapers Dept., where I have somehow managed, according to someone who works in our associate director's office, to be dubbed "the legendary genealogist of the Free Library of Philadelphia" by Family Tree Magazine. Am I a genuine genealogist? Hardly, but I do love history and solving mysteries, which is what brings me to another one of my true loves, which is the history of medicine. In my "other" life (well, actually, I do a good bit of that on the job) I'm very much involved in consumer-health information, education and advocacy. At some point in the foreseeable future I'll retire from the service of the City of Philadelphia and will want to be more involved in all the medical, historical and genealogical things. I'm fluent in French, addicted to singing (I've been in the University of PA Choral Society for 25 years), and totally devoted to Willow and Charlotte, my cats. Willow is an almost-18-year-old Maine Coon and Charlotte is an almost-9-year-old Maine Coon mix who thinks she's still a kitten. By the way, you can also reach me at willowsmom@aol.com, since I can check both from home as well as, in quiet moments, at work.

That's what I call a brief introduction, and if you think it's long-winded, stick around, there's more where that came from, I'm afraid!

Happy Spring, whenever it arrives (since we've had virtually no snow, it might as well be spring)...hope to see you on April 17...Barbara
