Duties

Reporting to the Associate Director of the Biomedical Library, the Evidence-Based Healthcare (EBHC) & Clinical Liaison Librarian leads and expands the Health Sciences Libraries’ development and provision of progressive evidence-based healthcare services and resources for the faculty, staff, clinicians, and students of Penn’s preeminent Schools of Medicine and Nursing and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS).

Evidence-based practice is an integral part of the education, patient care and research at Penn’s health sciences schools and the health system. The Biomedical Library is involved with a number of EBHC initiatives including a well-established relationship with the UPHS Center for Evidence-Based Practice (CEP) (http://www.uphs.upenn.edu/cep/index.html), of which the EBHC & Clinical Liaison Librarian participates as a member, contributing to the writing and publication of systematic reviews.

ECRI Institute, an AHRQ-designated Evidence-based Practice Center, seeks an experienced Information Specialist to join the Hotline Response Team as part of our Health Technology Assessment Information Center.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Intensive biomedical database and Web searching (PubMed, OVID, Dialog, The Cochrane Library, EBSCOhost, The National Guideline Clearinghouse, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, etc.)
• Search strategy construction, assessment, refinement, and maintenance
• Conducting reference interviews with clients and communicating with staff to define topics and the scope of searches
• Managing projects through research, writing, and editing phases to ensure timely delivery of client reports
• Documenting search strategies and results according to ECRI Institute guidelines

The Medical Curriculum Database Manager develops and maintains curricullar data for use by students, faculty and administrators. The DB Manager assures backups, database maintenance, documentation procedures and partners with software experts within the medical school to ensure that the systems make maximum use of existing database structures. The database manager collaborates with faculty to populate the database, edit, and use it to inform curricular decisions. The Medical Curriculum database manager will report to the Associate Dean for Assessment and Evaluation.
