Temple University of the Commonwealth System of Higher Education is a comprehensive public research university with more than 39,000 students. Temple University seeks a Health Sciences Libraries Director to provide creative and visionary leadership for its health sciences libraries in an exciting period of growth and change. Located on the health sciences campus of a vibrant, urban research university, the newly-opened Simmy and Harry Ginsburg Health Sciences Library and the Charles E. Krausz Library of Podiatric Medicine serve the information needs of the entire Temple health sciences community, including the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Podiatry; the College of Health Professions and Social Work; and Temple University Hospital. Geeks Bearing Gifts-Recap

The Simmy and Harry Ginsburg Health Sciences Library-A Photo Tour

On August 12, 2010 a number of Chapter members were treated to a tour of the new Simmy and Harry Ginsburg Health Sciences Library on the North Broad Street campus of Temple University.

The library is comprised of three floors.  The main entrance is located at street level. On this level are a welcome/waiting area, Circulation and Reference desks, various staff workrooms, a quiet study room, the Reference Reading Room, printers, and copiers.

Just inside the library are the Reference and Circulation desks

The ground floor contains stationary and compact shelving for bound journals, the Rare Book Room, a staff area, and study rooms of various sizes.

A study area. Smaller, private rooms are available also.

The second floor includes an Instruction Room and a Reference Computer Classroom.  On this level also are the Library Administration offices, printers and copiers, a Reading Room, and a Quiet Study Area.

Besides providing study carrels with internet connections for students’ own laptops (or those borrowed from the library), there are also public access computers available.

A centrally-located, spiral staircase links the three floors of the library

Combined with the natural and earth tones of the decor, the abundance of natural lighting gives the library a comfortable, pleasant atmosphere.  Overall, this is a lovely, clean, and well-lighted place for academic study and instruction.
