<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>
<p>The Clinical Informatics Librarian builds dynamic, collaborative relationships within the Jefferson University Physicians (JUP) and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH) clinical environments by providing a variety of specialized information services and individual consultations and by participating as a member of research- and knowledge-management-related project teams.  As a member of the Information Services team, he/she will participate in evaluating, planning, and developing clinical support services.  Additionally, the Clinical Informatics Librarian will be involved in supporting the information needs of TJU faculty, researchers and students.<br />
<span id="more-5219"></span></p>
<p>Cultivate relationships within  JUP and TJUH clinical environment to identify opportunities for AISR partnerships in information literacy, information management and education.   Provide consulting services that require a high level of knowledge on the effective use of information resources, search engines and information management software.</p>
<p>Attend clinical research committee meetings, clinical rounds, leadership and management meetings, journal clubs, seminars, case-conferences and other appropriate clinical forums, contributing expertise in advanced information and knowledge management practices. Research, analyze and deliver recommendations and reports in support of group objectives.</p>
<p>In response to complex clinical queries search biomedical literature and filter and synthesize the retrieved results to specific and focused outcomes. Proactively forward relevant information to clinical clients in anticipation of needs.</p>
<p>Collaborate with AISR staff, clinicians, researchers, and technical staff to develop strategies and tools in support of the Hospital&#8217;s patient care mission. Explore, trial and recommend databases, datasets and informatics programs to manage, store and ensure access to clinical research information.</p>
<p>Provide information services to TJU faculty, students in a consultative role as a public services librarian.</p>
<p>Teach library, information literacy or other specialized classes in cooperation with the Education department. Participate in conducting new student and human resources orientation sessions.</p>
<p>Participate in library staff training in the effective use of knowledge-based resources.</p>
<p>Participate in a variety of professional activities, such as active participation in professional organizations and publishing.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Master of Science/Information Science, ALA-Accredited MLS</li>
<li>Clinical Degree strongly preferred</li>
<li>Five to eight years experience in a healthcare or biomedical environment</li>
<li>Excellent oral and written communication skills</li>
<li>Ability to work well with people and different technologies</li>
<li>Ability to interpret clinical literature</li>
<li>Facility with technical writing</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Thomas Jefferson University, a health sciences university, invites applications and nominations for the position of Electronic Resources Librarian. The Electronic Resources Librarian ensures local and remote access to electronic resources to TJU faculty, staff and students.  Reporting to the Director, Collection Management, the Electronic Resources Librarian is a key member of the department and supervises 3 FTEs.  He/she also serves on the Library’s management team.</p>
<p><span id="more-5013"></span>The Electronic Resources Librarian maintains and updates electronic resource holdings using Serials Solutions or a similar electronic resource management system (ERMS), a proxy server and customized vendor interfaces. He/she will need to effectively troubleshoot access and content-related issues with aggregators, vendors and publishers.  Additionally, the Electronic Resources Librarian oversees the Library’s document delivery services.</p>
<p>Qualifications: Masters degree from an ALA-accredited institution. Three to five years academic library experience in a professional position working in electronic resources and/or serials management required.  Strong knowledge of link resolver technology (preferably Serials Solutions) and relational databases a must.  Understanding of scholarly publishing, copyright and electronic resource licensing desirable.  Must have an understanding of COUNTER compliant usage statistics, be familiar with digital library tools and standards (XML, HTML, OpenURL, DOI, RSS, Library 2.0, etc.), and have an understanding of open access and open source related issues.</p>
<p>Solid experience independently supervising a library service/function required.   Experience working on projects and teams will be expected. Effective oral and written communication skills necessary.   Must have a strong commitment to service.</p>
<p>The Scott Library is a unit of Academic &amp; Instructional Support &amp; Resources (AISR), which is focused on the development and transmission of knowledge resources for the university and its hospitals. AISR develops educational software, manages three public access computer labs, media production services and has responsibility for the learning infrastructure of the University. </strong>The goal of this webcast is to familiarize information professionals with electronic books and the associated collection management issues related to various platforms, pricing models, licensing agreements, term of ownership, resource management and access methods so that they have the knowledge to make informed decisions which will best serve their constituents.</p>

<a href="http://www.mlaphil.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/mfunk.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-3940 alignleft" title="mfunk" src="http://www.mlaphil.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/mfunk.jpg" alt="Mark Funk" width="194" height="261" /></a>Mark Funk, AHIP, FMLA, is the associate director for resources and education at the Weill Cornell Medical Library in New York City. He has been involved in collection development since 1980, long before e-journals and e-books. He wrote the chapter on monograph acquisitions for the Current Practice in Health Sciences Librarianship series and has served on the library advisory boards for many medical publishers. Funk is an active member of the Medical Library Association, where he has served as treasurer and president. He is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals and a Fellow of the Medical Library Association.</p>
<p><strong>Elizabeth R. Lorbeer, AHIP</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.mlaphil.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/llorbeer.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-3941 alignright" title="llorbeer" src="http://www.mlaphil.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/llorbeer.jpg" alt="Elizabeth Lorbeer" width="194" height="261" /></a>Elizabeth Lorbeer, AHIP, has been the associate director for content management at the Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences at the University of Alabama–Birmingham since April 2006. She previously held positions at the State University of New York–Buffalo, Boston University, and Rush University Medical Center. She received her bachelor and master of library science degrees from University at Buffalo (SUNY) and master&#8217;s of education in higher education administration from Boston University. She is the principal investigator for three National Network of Libraries of Medicine Express Library Digitization Award grants and the recipient of an Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) Leadership Scholarship to attend the Association of College and Research Libraries/Harvard Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians. Lorbeer was recently promoted to associate professor and is a distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals.</p>
<p><strong>Meg White</strong></p>

<p>Meg White is a twenty-year veteran of the health sciences publishing industry. Her background includes various sales, marketing, and product development positions at Rittenhouse Book Distributors, Mosby, Williams &amp; Wilkins, and Wolters Kluwer Health/Lippincott Williams &amp; Wilkins. She is a frequent speaker at industry-related conferences on the topics of product development, technology, curriculum, and continuing medical education.</p>
<p>White is currently executive director of technology services at Rittenhouse, leveraging her experience in the areas of technology, marketing, product development, and editorial. She headed the development of the company&#8217;s e-book initiative, the R2 Digital Library, and continues to serve as product manager for the platform. White is a past president and former board member of the American Medical Publisher&#8217;s Association.</p>

<p><strong>Karen Fischer</strong></p>
<p>Karen Fischer has been a librarian at the University of Iowa since 2003. Currently, she is the collections analysis &amp; planning librarian at the University of Iowa, and prior to this position, she served as the collection management librarian at Hardin Library for the Health Sciences for two and a half years. Her current position involves collections budget analysis, resource selection, collections analysis, and scholarly communication outreach. Additionally, she guest teaches at the school for library and information science on scholarly communication and collection management topics.</p>
<p>Fischer is a member of the American Library Association and the Society for Scholarly Publishing, and she serves as an editorial board member of the journal Collection Management. Recent professional activities include participating as an invited speaker (with Ray English) at the Midwest Medical Library Association Conference in 2009 on &#8220;Scholarly Communication 101: It&#8217;s All About Change&#8221;; a presentation at the 2008 Charleston Conference &#8220;Scholarly Communication and Collection Development Librarians: Getting the Conversation Started&#8221; (which is included in the 2008 Charleston Conference Proceedings, Libraries Unlimited, October 2009); and Author Addenda, an ARL SPEC Kit 310, published by the Association of Research Libraries in 2009.</p>
<p>Fischer received her bacheor degree in English from Kalamazoo College, MI and her master of library and information science degree from University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign.</p>

<p>Michelle Kraft, MLS, AHIP, is a senior medical librarian at the Cleveland Clinic,    and co-authored a chapter on collection development and electronic management    in the upcoming <em>Medical Library Association Guide to Managing Health Care    Libraries</em>. Currently she works with Cleveland Clinic Health System Libraries    evaluating and implementing online resources for use within health care system.    She has over 12 years experience in medical libraries, is an active member of    the Medical Librarian Association serving on various committees, and she has    authored several articles on library technologies in the <em>Journal of Hospital    Librarianship</em>, <em>Medical Reference Services Quarterly</em>, and <em>Library    Journal</em>. Her professional interests are in electronic resource usage in    medical libraries and the use of technologies within medicine and medical libraries.</p>

<p>Marian Simonson, MSLS, AHIP, is the systems medical librarian at the Cleveland    Clinic. Currently she manages the library’s computer and electronic    resources at the Cleveland Clinic. In that role, her special interests are evaluating    new products and streamlining access to e-resources for the library’s customers.    She has more than twenty-seven years of experience in hospital libraries and    has served on various committees of the Hospital Libraries Section of the Medical    Library Association. She is a past co-editor of HLS’ National Network and    has written several articles for it as well.</p>

<p>Thomas Jefferson University has a challenging part-time opportunity (21 hours per week) for a librarian to coordinate the replacement of older print journals with electronic backfiles.</p>
<p><strong><span id="more-3765"></span>Duties &amp; Responsibilities</strong></p>
<p>Evaluates the content completeness and image quality of electronic journal backfiles compared to their print equivalents.  Coordinates the assignment of review work to other library support staff.  Compiles electronic resource use statistics from e-journals, e-books and databases on a monthly basis.  Staffs the Information Desk on a weekly basis.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<p>A Masters Degree in library science. Two years library experience preferred.</p>
<p>Strong organization and project management skills.</p>
<p>Excellent verbal and written skills.</p>
<p>Ability to work independently and as part of a team.</p>
